The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Over 20 million English learners have taken this test which evaluates students' abilities to use and understand English at a higher education level.

A TOEFL score is required for students wishing is required for students wishing to study at American universities, as well as being sought after by many international business organisations and employers.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

An IELTS qualification is required by most British, Australian Canadian, Maltese and South African universities, and in some cases, American academic institutions. IELTS is often required by professional bodies and is even needed for immigration to Canada and Australia.

What will I learn?

Focus in placed upon teaching effective exam techniques. Your course will cover:

Writing:

You will be taught methods and strategies for successfully completing integrated and independent writing skills.

Speaking:

You will learn the speaking skills needed to talk confidently on a number of topics in order to take a one-to-one interview.

Reading:

You will practise reading a number of authentic academic writings. You will be taught to scan, read for general meaning and details, plus, you will learn how to restate and make inferences, amongst other reading skills.

Support:

You will be monitored by your teacher, given feedback while also being assessed on your performance through a number of assignments. You will use authentic test materials to prepare you fully for your test. You will participate in regular sample tests, and prepare for all sections of the IELTS or TOEFL tests.


Combine your IELTS/TOEFL course with another English course

If you want to improve your English level before joining your TOEFL or IELTS course, you may take a General English, Semi-Intensive, Intensive English or other course with EC before starting your exam preparation course. This is a good way to improve your confidence while brushing up on your English communication skills.
