Sightseeing

As beautiful as La Jolla is, you will probably want to do a spot of sightseeing around San Diego and California. EC San Diego social programme runs weekend excursions to the major sightseeing attractions. Independently, a rented car enables you to go where you want at in your own time. Relying on public transport isn't the most efficient way to explore. The system in America is notoriously inept when compared to Europe or East Asia.

The Old Town Trolley Tour is a fun introduction to the city's orientation and it will help you get your bearings.

For $59.99 you can buy an entry pass to over 55 attractions, tours and excursions using a Go San Diego Card. Daily to weekly cards are available. For more information: http://www.gosandiegocard.com/

San Diego's Balboa Park is one of the most popular locations in the city. The parks and trails are perfect for walking or cycling around. When you are not checking out one of the park's many museums you can sit on the grass and do some people watching.

The USS Midway, an aircraft carrier which served in the US navy for neatly 50 years is docked at the Broadway Pier. Tours of this illustrious ship will give you an insight into life at sea and the role Midway played in some of the events which shaped the world. Views of Downtown from its deck are spectacular. Sea lovers can also check out the Maritime Museum nearby.

Family oriented fun can be had at one of California's amusement parks. It's possible to visit Disneyland, Universal Studios, Six Flags, SeaWorld, Birch Aquarium and Legoland, amongst others, from San Diego.

Torrey Pines State Reserve is a more peaceful alternative to amusement parks. Learn about all the local fauna and flora and get some gentle exercise with a rewarding hike. Easier still, San Diego Zoo has the world's exotic animals on your doorstep.

Further a field, California has fantastic weekend sightseeing options. Do some start spotting in Beverly Hills and Hollywood or check out the diversity and rolling hills of San Francisco.

One of the most awe-inspiring views in the world is your to enjoy at the Grand Canyon, Arizona. In contrast you could try and break the bank at Las Vegas, Nevada.

Whatever interests you, the staff at EC San Diego is always on hand with advice on what to do in and around San Diego.
