Maaike Staffhorst, a journalist from Holland gained her certificate in advanced English after 9 weeks at EC London. Laura Bowkley of EC London asked her what she thought about her course.
LB:“Would you recommend EC London and if so, why?”
MS:“I just wanted to improve my English and this course was a good way so I’m glad I did it. It’s great that in the school there is enough input outside the lessons. The idea of conversation classes in the afternoon is a great initiative and I like the city walks too. You really have to immerse yourself in the language. It helped that I lived with English people.
LB:“How could we improve the school?”
MS:“Erm… I don’t know, it’s just great… Well, sometimes the teachers are too nice and not strict enough.”
LB:“What have you enjoyed doing in the evenings?”
MS:“I joined a theatre course at the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden. I am the only non-English person so it is very good for my English. The course cost £100 for 12 weeks and the class is 3 hours per week. There will be a performance at the end on 15 April - I’ll let you know the details.
LB:“Would you come back to EC in the future?”
MS:“I would like to come back although I think I have enough materials now to improve my English by myself. I would come back to do a themed language course about music lyrics or theatre if it’s possible.”
