This Castle is famous for being beautiful, and the town of Canterbury is picturesque and has inspired some of the greatest works of English Literature in history, such as Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales.’  You can enjoy this fabulous day for just £30! Happy Easter!

As you probably know, this weekend is Easter Weekend, a highly important Christian festival.  According to the Bible, Jesus Christ was resurrected 3 days after his crucifixion, and the Easter weekend marks this resurrection.  Easter also marks the end of Lent, a season of fasting and penance.  For these reasons, Easter Eggs are a recognised sign of the holiday.

We are running a little competition in the EC Cafe – an Easter Egg Hunt! There are 16 paper Easter Eggs hidden around the school.  Your task is to take an Answer Form from the EC Cafe, find the 16 eggs and write down their locations on your Answer Form. Then hand your completed form (with your name on it) into Reception.  There will be a Prize Draw on Tuesday 6th April, and the winner will get a yummy Easter surprise! Get involved!

Whatever you do over this weekend, have a very Happy Easter, and eat lots of chocolate!

April Fools’ Day

In many countries, April 1st is April Fools’ Day – a day in which hoaxes and practical jokes are employed specifically in order to embarrass gullible or ‘foolish’ people.  These pranks can be very simple jokes, or they can be more elaborate, and are often played on friends or family members.  The idea of ‘The Fool’ dates as far back as the 14th Century, as writer Chaucer made use of it in his ‘Canterbury Tales.’  So if you’re feeling funny or mischievous on April 1st this year, maybe put together a small practical joke! However, a joke taken too far is not funny…so don’t be too mean!

Cambridge and Greenwich

On Saturday 27th March, some students from EC went on a tour to Cambridge and Greenwich for the day.  In Greenwich we stood on the Meridian Line, and saw an exquisite painted hall, and sampled delicious food from all over the world in the Market.  In Cambridge we looked around the town and university, then went punting on the river.  I can highly recommend punting – it is the most relaxing and peaceful experience! Cambridge is a very beautiful town – you should pay a visit very soon!

Sport Relief!

On Sunday 21st March, Ingmar, Matthew and Unal from EC Brighton School ran 6 miles to raise money for charity for the Sport Relief weekend.  We promoted the event in school the week leading up to the run, and received donations towards the cause from students and staff.  Friday was also Red Socks Day, to raise awareness for the cause – take a look at our pictures below.  Well done to Ingmar, Matthew and Unal for their top effort!

Happy St Patrick’s Day!!! St Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland, and this day has been celebrated since before the 1600s.  Saint Patrick was said to have used the green Irish shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the pre-Christian Irish.  Expect lots of Irish singing, dancing and drinking of Guinness!

We are having our weekly Pub Night on Wednesday (today) this week, instead of Thursday, so that we can all celebrate St. Patrick’s Day together! Meet in King and Queen pub from 8.30pm, then we will head off later to more Irish parties. See you there!

Sport Relief

Sport Relief is coming up this weekend (19th-21st March), and EC Brighton will be raising money for charities that aim to help vulnerable groups of people across the world, combating issues such as poverty, disability and domestic abuse.  Sport Relief (or Comic Relief) is a worthy cause that takes place once every year, so for this reason we are encouraging staff and students to dig deep in their pockets and make a donation to the charity.

Our very own Ingmar and Matthew of EC are doing a sponsored run on Sunday 21st, so if you would like to sponsor them, or even run with them, please speak to Charlotte in Reception.  Rumour has it that they might be running in some sort of costume…cameras ready!!

Sport Relief this year is also known as Red Socks Day, so look out for the staff sporting dashing red socks this Friday! Please feel free to wear some red clothes this Friday to promote awareness of the charity, and if you have any funny red costume-y things, wear them to school as well!

We would be very grateful for any donations you can give – we have a donation box on the desk in Reception.  For more information on how to get involved please speak to Charlotte. Thank you!
