Only five places remain in the 49er category for this summer’s London Olympics, and EC sponsored Malta49er is at the final qualifying event in Croatia.

It’s now or never for sailors Seb and Benji as they look to book their place to compete in the world’s largest sporting event. At this moment they stand in sixth place behind Bermuda, Japan, Italy, Canada and Greece. With only five nations qualifying, Malta49er must finish in the top-five or else they won’t be going to London.

Our first EC Community Day was a huge success! EC students and staff at our 15 schools volunteered their time and energy to a variety of good causes, with each centre doing something unique and special in making positive contributions to local communities.

Influential Japanese EFL magazine Ryugaku Journal has given out its 2012 Best School Awards and, we are pleased to let you know, EC was recognised in two categories!

Based on the votes of 500 students, EC is a winner in the the Best Chain School (UK and USA) category, while EC Brighton ranks in the top-ten of the world’s best English schools.

EC San Francisco

Did you know that EC San Francisco is a LEED Gold Certified building? This means they generate greenhouse gas reductions equivalent to removing 270 vehicles from the road, and use 36% less water than minimum government standards. Something for us all to aspire to!

EC recently held an event to celebrate the opening of our exciting new English school in January 2012. The ceremony in Miami Beach coincided with the ICEF conference, bringing in agents and educators from across the world. Conference attendees as well as members of the Miami Beach community and city government were invited to celebrate in anticipation of our soon-to-be-open school. Students who want to learn English in Miami now have a wonderful school to go to!

Our partners ESL - Language studies abroad visited us this month on a Famtrip in the USA, including the fabulous cities of San Diego, San Francisco, Boston and New York. We were delighted to meet some of the ESL counsellors from different countries. They all loved the city, the school and the team and are proud to be EC's Ambassadors! Here are some comments from our US Fam Trip Host and EC Miami Director, Amanda Ross-Gomez, on the highlights of the trip:

At a media event attended by Malta's Minister of Finance, Tonio Fenech, EC announced the opening of a new Bristol English school as well as a new building in Brighton.

The Minister congratulated EC's Chairman, Andrew Mangion, on EC's achievements as a Maltese-based company successfully operating on a global level.

EC employs more than 800 people around the world, almost half of which are in Malta’s Head Office and school.

A press conference was held today to announce to the assembled television and print media that EC has acquired a new school in San Diego. The press conference held in EC Malta was well attended by the Maltese media and also Maltese dignitaries including the US Ambassador, Molly Bordonaro.

EC Chief Executive, Andrew Mangion, announced that EC is looking to strengthen its presence in America by opening more schools in the near future.

Big and exciting news for the EC family…we have a new school! Today we are happy to announce the opening of EC San Diego! This marks EC’s second school in America (and seventh school in total) offering students the change to learn English in a wonderful destination. California and San Diego in particular, is famed for its sunny weather and long sunny beaches. Naturally, EC will provide students the usual combination of quality English courses and great accommodation.
