Thanksgiving in NYC

Sharing is caring!

Thanksgiving can be a tough day in New York when you’re a foreigner.  Most businesses and restaurants are closed, and Americans are usually with friends and family.  Even though there will be less options available for Thanksgiving evening, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the holiday as a visitor.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is perhaps the most famous parade in New York.  It occurs on Thanksgiving every year and is one of the oldest New York traditions, this year celebrating its 87th run.  The parade begins at 9:00 in the morning at 77th street and Central Park West, and moved downtown along Central Park West to Columbus circle.  From Columbus Circle, the parade moves along Central Park South, and turns right at 6th Avenue.  The parade continues on 6th Avenue to Herald Square, where it ends at Macy’s.  The last part of the parade always includes Santa Claus, which symbolizes the beginning of the holiday season.  You can see the event by attending, or you can watch it on television.
