This week EC San Diego welcomes our brand new Student Services Coordinator, Tyler Runsten!
Get to know more about Tyler from his bio below:
Hello everyone! I’m Tyler and I was originally born and raised Rocklin Ca, and moved to San Diego to study at the University of California Santa Barbara in 2009. I graduated in 2013 and majored in International studies and economics. I am one of three brothers in my family, with one older brother and one twin brother. I was on the diving team at UCSD. During college I studied abroad in Ecuador where I studied Spanish at the advanced level, so I know how difficult it can be to move to a new country to study a language. After college, I worked at Sea World for one year as an acrobat in the Blue Horizon show. In my spare time I like to go surfing, rock climbing, and slack lining. I also enjoy binge watching “Friends” on Netflix when I have the time. In 10 years I see myself hopefully not working as much and travelling whenever possible and surfing a lot and going on many adventures
My best advice for students learning English would be to live in a host family. Living in a host family is a great experience because you are forced to speak the language and it can also create a life- long friendship. My favorite thing about studying abroad was getting to experience another culture and country.
I decided to work for EC because I think it’s important for everyone to learn a second language and wanted to be a part of a company that helps students learn a second language. I am very excited to be here and look forward to working with the students, staff and teachers to make EC San Diego a great place to study English! Feel free to drop by the front desk and say hello!
