A Synonym is a word that has almost the same meaning as another word. For example, a synonym for beautiful is stunning:

She is a beautiful girl.

She is a stunning girl.

Learning synonyms is a great way of improving your vocabulary and can make your writing and speaking more exciting or interesting. In the UK, it is a known fact that teachers hate to see the word 'nice' in an essay! Can you think of some synonyms for nice?

In the following sentences one word is highlighted. You need to choose which word below the sentence is a synonym for the highlighted word. When you’re finished, don’t forget to think of some synonyms for nice!

  • 1. The sofa is too BIG for the living room.



  • 2. Mice are really TINY animals.



  • 3. I HATE spiders, they are horrible.



  • 4. This lesson isn't very HARD!



  • 5. I hate watching FRIGHTENING movies.



  • 6. Please find a CHAIR.



  • 7. I'm really POORLY, I haven't been out of the flat for days.



  • 8. I CHOSE the fish, it looked delicious.



  • 9. Please move to the CENTRE of the classroom.



  • 10. I felt really SAD when I realised we didn’t say goodbye.

Yes, I agree that if we don?t know the synonym we can be lost, we can not understand some sentences and so it was good this kind of exercises
