It's time to test your knowledge of adjective + preposition combinations. Take a look at these common adjectives and choose the prepositions that normally follow them.

It's not easy to remember which preposition is used with which adjective - practice exercises like this are the best way to learn.

When you have finished, write your own example sentences using the correct adjective + preposition combinations. Did you get 10/10?

why not hopless inremembering

I tried many preposition quizzes but
I didn't succed in any exercise with 10/10
This exercise is not different and i made a
mistake in writing in remembering instead of at
remembering. I hope Chris will come to explain this
hopeless at remembering> Thanks Chris I am omproving

Really, it's best for prepositions and articles to just practice them over and over. If your native language has articles, count yourself lucky Smile Even advanced learners of English whose native tongue doesn't have articles find them very challenging. And prepositions are difficult in any language because the "same" ones are used in different ways across cultures.

It's rather difficult for me to remmember them! Worried

She is enthusiastic ABOUT learning English.
She is pleased WITH her results in it.
He is famous FOR writing poems.
He is not related TO literature.
She is attached TO her brother.
She is capable OF great deal.
This school is suitable FOR her.
She is hopless AT Maths.
His marks were similar TO hers.
The classroom was crowded WITH students.

I made three mistakes..
my sentences:
- He's very enthusiastic about the party that my father will make.
- She's pleased with her new car.
- France is famous for Eiffel tower.
- He thought that math is related to physics.
- He's very attached to his old car.
- I'm capable of changing my world.
- His major is the most suitable for him.
- I'm hopeless at solving this problem.
- My friend bought a new cellphone it's similar to mine.
- This supermarket had a specail offer last week. It was crowded with people.

not in remembering, but at remembering

First I made the same mistake "in remembering" in "Tom is hopeless ___ remembering birthdays" but then corrected as I remembered one good set expression "to be good at smth". This expression has just to be learned by heart!

Two mistakes. I put in the first sentence preposition in instead of about and in the sixth one - at.
1. I'm not enthusiastic about getting to work by walk despite it is situated not far from my house.
2. He was pleased with good news.
3. Tall Ship "MIR" is famous for winnings in most of tall ship's races.
4. His progress in english related to his doggedness.
5. My sister is attached to our dog.
6 He was capable of stealing.
7. A suitable match for their daughter.
8. My parents are hopeless at using computer.
9. Your shirt is similar to mine.
10. Our metro is crowded with people at rush-hours.

I love this exercises...

Hi everybody,

I made only one mistake, but I guess that the other right answers were guessed by me.

So here are some new sentences from me:

I am not enthusiastic ABOUT writing letters.
I was very pleased with my results in English lessons.
Germany is famous for "Bratwurst" Smile
Jenny is not related to him.
I am hopeless at remembering names and faces.
Her work was very similar to mines.
The room was crowded with nervous students.

I hope that I wrote the sentances without mistakes.

And I love this exercises...

It is a very interesting topic but I find it difficult to remember At Wits End
Here are my sentences:
1/I am enthusiastic about swimming and I go for a swim twice a week but I am still afraid of deep water.
2/I am not very pleased with my employees because panctuality is not their strong point.
3/Norway is famous for breathtaking views.
4/She is related to the President.
5/I was very attached to my nephew.His sudden moving made me sad.
6/He was not capable of telling a lie.
7/He is a suitable candidate for the job.
8/When I was attending school , I was excellent at maths.
9/My dogs are very similar to each other.
10/The waiting room was crowded with patients and I decided to come back in a few hours.

It is not easy to learn when

It is not easy to learn when to use prepositions. I have done what I felt is seems to be right and got only one mistake (number 8, I used in instead of at).

 One mistake at number 2. I am absolutely agree with you. Practice is the only way to learn this. Not only with exercises. Reading and listening help too. I am constantly trying to watch English television and to read books. I haven`t visited one single course of English since high school \ten years ago\ but I managed to keep my level and even improve my English by watching TV and reading books.
