Meanings of words on the AWL

In this exercise, you are supposed to choose the word that has a DIFFERENT meaning from the original word. Therefore, the meanings or shades of the meanings of the words are in the other three multiple-choice words (out of four) that you should NOT have chosen for the answer.

These 'quizzes' are very challenging, and I'm sure the average native speaker would get less than 100% correct. Keep reading and practicing, though. In the future, I will try some other formats for testing yourself on the Academic Word List. Wave evelyn (aka manyenglishes)

Please explain the first- why "cold air" is correct? Sad

draft

I must admit that this one was tricky. A draft of air doesn't necessarily mean 'cold air.' It can refer to any air current that you didn't want to have blowing into a room or space. For example, maybe a draft brings pollen into your bedroom during the summer, and you're allergic. However, 'drafty' does refer to an undesirable cold air current passing through a room or space. Next time I'll try to make the right choice more obvious. Smile evelyn

thank you very much for

It was a very hard lesson

But I got 10/10.
