EC Students in Cape Town
There are certain verbs that always go with certain nouns. We call this a collocation. Read 3 diary entries of a few students and choose the correct verbs from the box below to fill in on the blank space. Each verb can be used more than once.
1) There is so much to do in Cape Town. I like music and I _A_ guitar. I prefer to _B_ live music. There are many restaurants and pubs that I always _C_ for live music. My friends and I would always _D_ a few drinks and _E_ a taxi home later the night.
2) My friends and I usually _F_ walking along the mountain paths. We would often go very early and _G_ the sun rise and afterwards _H_ breakfast at a small restaurant. If it was a very hot day we would _I_ the beach and _J_ football on the sand.
3) I _K_ my homework every afternoon. At school I always _L_ the newspaper when I _M_ my coffee. I don’t often _N_ music, but I always _O_ the news on the radio. At the weekends I _P_ sightseeing and I _Q_ more than one movie when I _R_ the cinema.

In spite of "Elementary" classification at the title I made 3 mistakes.
).
1) I always GO TO for live music... (I chose "go");
2) I usually GO walking along the mountain paths... (I thought - "do walking");
3) Misunderstanding leads to mistake in: I don’t often LISTEN TO music, but I always listen to the news on the radio... (I thought we need something different than "listen to" to avoid tautology
Thank you for this lesson.

I thought 'DO walking' too
What's wrong with C? "Check
What's wrong with C?
"Check answers" gave me all options are wrong.
C? GO TO
Hi bayan2,
answer for C is " GO TO"
hello, then GO walking, GO
hello,
then GO walking, GO fishing, GO camping, GO sightseeing,.... I think because we have to use our feet to walk or even drive a car or any thing to get there and do something there. That is why we have to use GO instead of DO
the last one, "I don't often LISTEN TO music, but I do with the news on the radio" or " I don't often LISTEN TO music, but the news on the radio". I am not sure but I think you can do that way.

hi, I always read newspapers
hi,
I always read newspapers when I take my coffee, why is wrong (maybe because it includes ,,my"? ) please answer me
NINO
It must be: I always "READ"
It must be: I always "READ" newspapers when I "HAVE" my coffee
have a cup of tea / drink a cup of tea
I have a cup of tea , or I drink a cup of tea.
NOT**: "I take a cup of tea"
Could I have a cup of coffee?
NOT** : "Could I take a cup of coffee?"
one more example: I have a beer (it means I have (drink) a bottle of beer)
NOT** : I take a beer ( I take a bottle of beer from a liquor store)
HAVE = DRINK in this case
HAVE = EAT in other case too: I have chicken noodle soup for dinner
