"Congratulate on" or "Congratulate for"

Which one is correct "Congratulate on" or "Congratulate for" ?
Example :
1. I congratulate you on being accepted as a student of university.
Or
2. I congratulate you for being accepted as a student of university.

Please help! Which one is correct? And tell me why?
