The course
The syllabus is highly structured to promote continual solid progress across all language skills and to maintain a high level of motivation through a series of interesting modules.
Your learning capabilities and speed of development is unique, which is why you will also have a personal study plan, individual tutorials and a personal reading programme. Every 3 weeks you will have an individual tutorial with your teacher where you will discuss your progress, address areas for improvement and plan your further development. A progress test every 5 weeks provides careful monitoring and maps your progress.
When you and your teacher believe you are ready to move up a language level you will sit a special Level Test to demonstrate that you have achieved the specific criteria. A personal Learner Diary records your progress in the various language skills.
Many students choose to study for an internationally recognised exam qualification whilst on an Academic Year programme. A FCE, CAE, CPE, BEC, IELTS, or TOEFL certificate is invaluable for your career, when applying for a job or entering university.
Expected Results
You will achieve greater fluency and accuracy across the speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. You will speak with confidence; your range of vocabulary will vastly improve; you will use intonations, idioms and colloquial language correctly and with ease. You will understand English spoken with different accents; enjoy reading in English and write accurately.
As an Academic Year student you will receive an EC Diploma to mark your achievement stating the length of time you have studied with us, your starting level and the level you have achieved.
You will be given a detailed personal assessment which you can present to your employers or university along with your EC Diploma. You may also choose to sit an exit exam. Whether you are an elementary or an advanced student you will find these courses uniquely stimulating.

Multi-Destination Academic Year Option
Multi-Destination Academic Year is the perfect way to combine your studies and discover different destinations or countries!
Start your course in one EC school for 12 weeks and move to another country or city to complete your studies. Your syllabus is completely transferable across all of our schools.EC gives you the opportunity to study and experience London, Cambridge, Brighton, Malta and Cape Town. If you decide to make Malta one of your study destinations we include a return flight from London and back.
University Placement - the next step
EC gives a free university placement service to all students who complete the Academic Year Programme. Our Academic Team will assist you with your application to a university in England or gain a University of London degree from St. Martin’s Institute in Malta, where the cost of living is lower.
