It was an unexpected emergence in my life; I am an artist turned English teacher. In 2007 the artist in me was compelled to move to Florence, Italy to see the all the beautiful sculptures and paintings in person. Surprisingly, when I left a year later I had found a new passion in my life, teaching English. This discovery surprised me- but I felt that teaching English harnessed my creativity and allowed my passion for expression to come out in a different medium, in the form of teaching a language.
After a life-changing and exciting year, I returned to the US and relocated from Texas to California. Soon after, I was teaching English again, not only to Italians this time, but to a roomful of International students. What fun it was After a few years I became the Manager of that same Academic Program and felt it was just as rewarding as teaching but now I got to interact with a whole school full of students rather than just a few!
Reflecting on my time abroad, I realize how valuable it was to have lived and experienced another country and culture. I truly believe that no one’s life could be complete without it! I applaud all those who dream of living in another country and then turning that dream into a reality. When you take that leap you never know what part of yourself you will unlock and what doors may open. I look forward to helping our students’ open new doors and have a life-changing English speaking adventure in this beautiful city at EC LA!
