Shopping

From Churchill Square to the North Laines, the Brighton shops appeal to anyone and everyone.

Churchill Shopping Centre was built in the late 1990’s – previously this area was like the Old Lanes. Now, it is the modern shopping centre for all major stores. It also houses Brighton’s largest department store - Debenhams. Late night shopping is on Thursday and all main buses pass by the front entrance. The top floor has all the main fast food outlets. The bookshop, Borders, is good for rainy days – you can have a cup of coffee upstairs and read books, newspapers (even international ones) or magazines without having to buy them.

Most shops in Brighton open seven days a week throughout the year, opening from around 9am until 5.30pm or later. On Sunday, opening hours are generally shorter than the rest of the week. As for the  Lanes, it is possible to shop in the original Old Lanes as well as the North Laines.

In the heart of the medieval fishing village, the Old Lanes are a hive of independent retail activity - focusing on jewellery, antiques, interior design and other specialist shops. There are also numerous eateries in the area. With a surprise around every corner, it's the perfect place for window shopping and making amazing discoveries.

The North Laines area on the other hand, is full of second hand shops, music stores and cafes. Commonly known as the student part of town - it is a vibrant area of urban living and a great place at weekends with street entertainment and stalls- it is often referred to as the 'happening part of town'.
