Sports and Relaxation

Sports

More than 30% of the city is made up of parks and green spaces, providing the perfect opportunity for an early morning jog, lunchtime picnic or evening stroll.

London is home to top football clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal, and also has the new 90,000-seater Wembley Stadium. You can purchase sports tickets to watch games between some of the top clubs.

The city also hosts the world’s number one tennis championship, Wimbledon, where the stars go head to head every year in July. April sees Oxford and Cambridge battle it out at university boat race, which takes place on the River Thames. Other events include 6-nations rugby at Twickenham and world-class athletics at Crystal Palace.

For those who fancy something a little different, the traditional summer sport of cricket is played across the capital at grounds like Lord's and the Oval. You can also spend an enjoyable afternoon in a sports bar watching the game surrounded by fellow supporters.

If you'd rather take part, then we can advise you on the best local options when it comes to gyms, sports centres and swimming pools, as well as a host of other sports facilities.

Relaxing

Of course, there are lots of other ways to relax, from pampering yourself in one of the city's spas to sitting in on a free lunchtime or early evening concert. Churches and theatre foyers often hold short concerts which are a wonderful way to wind down. If people-watching is more your thing, then enjoy a cup of English tea at a cafe; those in Covent Garden Market near EC London are particularly great.
