Malta CertTESOL Course
CertTESOL Course Outline
The Trinity Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL) is an internationally recognised qualification for those looking for a career in English language teaching. This is the first professional qualification for teachers of EFL/ESOL/ESL to young learners and adults.
The CertTESOL course is for native speakers of English or other fluent users of the English language (please see Entry Requirements below).
This full-time 4-week intensive face-to-face course entails approx 113 contact hours, and around 24 hours devoted to teaching practice, which we consider to be the central component of the CertTESOL course, around which all other elements revolve. Trainees also devote 60 – 85 hours to directed study, prior to and during the course itself, involving structured reading of targeted material and research tasks, leading to the production of a number of assignments of both a theoretical and practical nature. Our course is designed around our trainees. Maximum class size is 12 and this ensures that tuition is as personal as possible and that all trainees receive the necessary support and feedback to facilitate the development of their own particular style.
Course Structure
The daily schedule is divided up into theoretical input classes and workshops in the morning and early afternoon, and practical sessions later in the day, including lesson planning and materials production, teaching practice, observation of experienced teachers, peer observation and feedback sessions.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, trainees will:
- have a clear understanding of basic TESOL methodologies and approaches, and will be able to put them into practice in a manner appropriate to course and lesson aims, as well as the learners' background and their learning objectives.
- be able to use a variety of teaching materials and have an awareness of the key features required of course books, printed and other teaching material.
- be able to balance the requirements of accuracy and fluency in teaching English.
- have the potential to self-evaluate their performance and to register further professional development through further training.
Where is the course held?
The course takes place on the premises of EC Malta itself so as to ensure that you experience what it is like to teach in a real language school environment and be immersed in a dynamic language learning atmosphere.
