Explore China, nominated for language travel magazine’s innovation of the year award in 2007, gives teenagers an amazing opportunity to learn Chinese in China, a country with one of the longest histories and oldest civilisations in the world.
Extra Xian and Shanghai presents a fantastic chance for students to extend their Chinese experience. Students can take an extra week and travel to the famous cities of Xian and Shanghai. In Xian they will discover the wonder of the Terracotta Warriors - a site not to be missed by any visitor to China. Following this the tranquillity of the Yuyuan Garden will be a relaxing break whilst staying in the bustling modern metropolis of Shanghai.
Students stay in twin rooms in comfortable 3 star hotels throughout their 6 day tour of Xian and Shanghai. An internal flight from Beijing to Xian and an overnight train journey from Xian to Shanghai are included. All meals, entrance fees and guides are included in the tour price. Students end their tour in Shanghai; should students require an additional transfer returning them to Beijing an extra transfer fee will apply.
Immersion into the Chinese culture, the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the bustling Beijing markets – the sights, sounds and culture of this fast paced city will leave students with memories of a lifetime. The course gives students a solid foundation in Chinese Mandarin, which by 2010 it is expected that 100 million students will be learning.
EC’s Academic team together with our longstanding partners at Huimin Middle School, Beijing, have created a programme that will provide a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience for the teenagers who take part. Lessons will be conducted in English; therefore it is imperative that students have at least an intermediate level of English. The areas covered include Mandarin and Chinese script for real life situations, Chinese history, culture and traditions, modern China and the Chinese economic phenomenon.
Students stay in high standard rooms at Huimin School, purpose built for Western students learning Mandarin Chinese. They will be cared for by English speaking EC group leaders who will be sleeping in the same residence. Meals are provided on campus with a mixture of Eastern and Western food being served. The School has extensive outdoor sports areas such as outdoor table tennis and a 400 metre running track that students are encouraged to use during their free time.
