SPORTS

  • Multi Activities

    Keep the mind and body active by participating in a variety of fun sports and challenging activities.

    With swimming pools available as well as fantastic sports facilities and spacious grounds, our activities team organise a different combination of sports and activities every day to ensure a varied week.

    Students will spend 2 hours per day over 4 days participating in a selection of activities that may include football and swimming, as well as treasure hunts and team games.

  • Climbing & Bouldering

    Be part of the growing Olympic sport for 2021 and learn or develop your Climbing Skills.

    Let your mind, body and soul climb on some of the best indoor walls created for specialist climbing. Over 4 days students will take part in a varied programme of climbing and bouldering for 2 hours each day. Located in state-of-the-art facilities available with the support of experienced and qualified instructors, students will enjoy:

    PRINCIPLES OF CLIMBING
    Safety, harnessing, belaying, catching and lowering, and more.

    BOULDERING TECHNIQUES
    Crimping, matching, planning your routes and more.

  • Dance

    Learn a variety of dance skills taught by professional dance teachers.

    Dance offers a varied programme according to each student’s abilities, skills and interests. Classes cover free movement, contemporary, jazz, street dance and even choreography! The dancers will showcase all they’ve learned to other students at the weekly Academy Showcase.

    Our teachers are all professionally qualified to teach at a variety of levels and disciplines, whether beginners or more advanced students of contemporary and commercial dance.

     Each student will receive a certificate and report to demonstrate their achievement

     The average teacher to student ratio is 1:12.

  • Horse Riding

    Ride at an equestrian centre that offers a wealth of experience in fantastic locations.

    Each student will receive an ability test on their first day at the equestrian centre. The professional instructors will create a programme adapted to the students’ abilities and select a horse or pony accordingly for the week.

    Stable management will also be a part of the programme.

    15 hours of English language tuition per week.

    Horse Riding 4 days per week, 2 hours per day.

    Instruction options include dressage and stable management, and horse riding in the local countryside, dependent on level.

  • Tennis

    A variety of skills and techniques taught by our professional coaches to help improve your game.

    Each student will be evaluated on the first tennis session as to their level of play. Our professional coaches are all Lawn Tennis Association qualified with Level 2 or higher.

    Our coaches will ensure that students learn and practise a variety of skills and techniques, including serving, volleys, shots and etiquette on the court.

    Play takes place on dedicated on-site multi-surface tennis courts.

  • Surfing

    With miles of beaches and reliable waves, it’s no wonder surfing has become an integral part of California's identity. What better place to enjoy them than Surf City, USA!

    On our surfing programme, students will start with basics of surfing including safety, basics and etiquette, as well as some practise. They will also learn about ocean ecology and conservation to complement their surfing practise.

    Students can expect to enjoy at least 4 days per week out surfing, at least 2 hours each session. All of our instructors are certified members of The International Surfing Association (ISA) and will be there to help students every step of the way.

  • Watersports

    Make a splash this summer and take to the water for mixed watersports course.

    This exciting activity course could include, canoeing,kayaking, windsurfing, stand up paddleboarding or dinghy sailing. It gives the students the opportunity to try different watersport activities during the week and is run by qualified and experienced instructors on a beautiful Somerset Lake, specific for watersports. Students will learn basic safety and techniques. Bouyancy aids are provided.

    Various watersports over 4 afternoons.

    The club provides buoyancy aids.

    Ratio is 1:8 or 1:10 depending on activity on that day.

CREATIVE

  • Art & Design

    Develop your artistic abilities and creativity in a supportive environment with qualified and experienced art teachers.

    Students will be trained in a variety of techniques and skills, and will be able to showcase the results to the rest of the school at the end of each week at the Academy Art Exhibition.

    The course will take place in an art studio at the school, with occasional field trips or visits to a local art museum or exhibition.

    All instructors are specialist art teachers whose qualifications and experience are recognised by British schools.

ACADEMIC

  • Intensive Study

    Focus on improving your English language skills on this intensive course.

    This course will allow students to focus on developing their English skills, with time spent concentrating on vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and communication through classroom activities and project work.

    We use a mix of traditional teaching methods and technology (including interactive whiteboards) in the classrooms to ensure an engaging and dynamic class.

    Our classrooms are multi-lingual, so students must use English to be understood. The course is overseen by a qualified Director of Studies.

    8 additional hours of English language classes per week with a teacher to student ratio of 1:6.

  • Summer Academic Study

    A true taste of a British education with subjects taught by qualified British school teachers.

    This programme teaches a variety of subjects, including maths, science, art and humanities. It’s ideal for students who are currently at intermediate level English or above and who want to experience what it would be like to study in an English school or to prepare for further study at an English speaking school, college or university.

    Students who book onto this programme will be asked to take a short level test in advance to verify they are intermediate level. If their level is seen to be less than intermediate, we will recommend an alternative, such as Intensive English.

    Key Facts

    23 hours academic lessons per week.

    Subjects could include: maths, history, geography, science, and philosophy.

    The maximum teacher to student ratio is 1:8.

    Students join in the whole school activity hour where they will get a chance to mix with students on other programmes.

    Minimum pre-intermediate level (A2) of English language required to take part in this course.

  • Academy MBA

    This specialised course allows students to study a variety of core and elective MBA style modules, providing a mini-MBA taster experience and insight in to one of the world’s most prestigious and sought after qualifications.

    Using traditional teaching methods, interactive technology and project based learning, students can enjoy a well-rounded and inspiring education. Designed with the ambitious student in mind, this MBA taster course is guaranteed to delight, excite and ignite passion.

    Alongside the carefully selected MBA modules, the Academy MBA will offer daily workshops designed to prepare students for the demands of the modern business environment and place them ahead of the pack.

    12 hours teaching of core MBA modules per week.

    8 hours of teaching elective MBA modules per week.

    4 hours of business and entrepreneur workshops per week.

    1 half day & 2 full day excursions per week.

    Full evening activity programme.

    Two week Academy MBA programme, start dates 11 July, 18 July and 25 July (for full course).

    Minimum intermediate level (B1) of English language required to take part in this course.
