I am happy to report that I survived my first London Marathon yesterday and woke up this morning (very) sore but immensely proud of my endeavours both on the running front and the sponsorship I raised for my charity LEPRA.
This last part was due in no small measure to the generosity shown by everyone at EC Language schools. The total raised today stands at £2,893.20 (my target was £1800) from donations. I am really grateful for this incredible support which along with the crowds yesterday who cheered me on every painful step of the way meant absolutely everything.
Highlights of the day included running alongside former Olympic Rowing gold medallist Matthew Pinsent (for a short while!), being overtaken around mile 19 by a man dressed in a Bananaman suit (believe me when this happens you can’t help but feel a sinking feeling!) and the champagne reception at the end my family put on that made everything seem worthwhile.
Thanks again and if my example can inspire others to give it a go next year I would offer the following much heeded advice given to me prior to yesterday’s race “ Adopt the tortoise rather than the Hare approach.” This was definitely sound words of wisdom as some of the grimaces on peoples faces that had set off too fast only to run out of petrol towards the end was painful to watch!
Thanks again and Happy Easter to all,
Michael
