Sharing is caring!

Located in the north of England, the proud city of Manchester dates all the way back to the Roman era, and is one of the most populated urban areas in the UK. It has just been rated the best city to live in in the UK, beating out even London. Manchester is a cosmopolitan city, a hotspot for innovation, and is home to two of the world’s best football teams, top universities, and many opportunities for employment.

Let’s look at what makes this city such a great place to live, and some of the things you can enjoy if you want to learn English in Manchester!

Famous for being a sports haven, Manchester is known for producing some of the world’s best athletes. Football lovers will know that two top football clubs, Manchester United and Manchester City, call this awesome place home, and that the largest club football stadium in the UK, Old Trafford, can be found here. The city has also proudly hosted every major football competition including the World Cup and the European Championship.

The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Royal Northern College of Music are all located in the same neighbourhood, bringing together students and making Manchester a genuine, welcoming university town. Over 75,000 students come from all over the world to attend these three fantastic universities.

Manchester boasts an incredible performing arts and music scene, with touring bands and companies frequently visiting the city and countless museums and art galleries dotted around the city centre. Don’t forget to visit the Roman fort at Castlefield to really appreciate the long, rich history of Manchester.

Not only does Manchester have one of the best public transit systems in the United Kingdom, but it also has many beautiful buildings thanks to the city’s strong history in the textiles, and is looking to build even more. The Managing Director of Marketing Manchester, Shoena Southern, said, “Looking to the future, the next objective for Manchester is to meet growing demand by increasing the availability of living spaces,” allowing more people to take advantage of the huge property boom!
