We have a very open feedback system and ask all students to share their EC Experience with us. Some do this in video format which we share on our social media pages, some leave us handwritten notes, some fill in our feedback forms.
Let’s meet Marcella from Brazil, she took an English course in Toronto with EC. Let’s find out about her time in Canada and why she loved learning English at our Toronto English school.
Here, EC Toronto Alumni student, Marcella, tells us about her experience of learning English with us.
1. Why did you choose to learn English in Toronto?
I live in São Paulo and I love big and cosmopolitan cities. I researched some options and Toronto from the beginning was the city that most interested me because of the diversity of people and great leisure options, restaurants, and places to visit, for all styles and tastes.
2. What did you learn at EC Toronto?
I arrived at a pre-intermediate level; in Brazil I took private English classes but here I managed to gain more confidence to speak. I learned a lot about the lifestyle and culture of Canadians and other immigrants who live here. In the classroom, we not only learn about English but also about the cultural experience of another country.
3. How much has your English improved?
I improved a lot. I had tried to study English before and it never improved, for a long time I thought that English was “not for me” and that I would never be able to learn, and I would never be able to talk to people from other countries. Here at EC Toronto, I learned to have confidence in myself, to respect my learning time and I was able to see my evolution every day, every week.
4. What was your favorite EC Toronto activity? Why?
I really enjoyed David’s classes and mainly because every day he brought stories, expressions of English spoken on the street. Learning that went beyond the classroom. I also really liked the book provided, it always had interesting topics for discussion.
5. What did you like most about school/lessons?
I really enjoyed David’s classes and mainly because every day he brought stories, expressions of English spoken on the street. Learning that went beyond the classroom. I also really liked the book provided, it always had interesting topics for discussion.
6. What did you like most about your accommodation?
I rented an apartment together with my husband because he came with me.
7. Would you recommend EC to a friend?
Certainly. I even recommended!
8. Where did your new friends come from?
I had contacts with Brazilians. But I had the opportunity to live with Mexicans (a great friend I met here), Colombians, and French. But I also met some Koreans, Chileans, and Italians.
9. What did you like most about social leaders?
They were always patient and ready to help me. In the moments when I wasn’t feeling well, they always welcomed me and encouraged me to keep going and not give up. This was certainly very important in my journey.
10. What will you remember about your stay?
I loved being in Toronto during these 3 months. The city and the people are very welcoming and receptive. And at school from day one I was well received, I had help, I made friends, I learned, and I gained the confidence to go further. EC and Toronto will always be in my fondest memories.
