Just down the road from EC Brighton in Hove, is this cute and interesting museum and art gallery with lots on offer. It is housed in an Italianate Victorian villa which sits in a tranquil garden. This museum is part of the municipally owned collective of museums and art galleries across Brighton and Hove. It is run by the council so and features both permanent and rotating exhibits of work, from history and from local artists. Upstairs is a toy haven full of teddy bears, dolls, mechanical toys, rocking horses and tricycles to play with.
In the museum and art gallery you can find a collection of paintings, textiles, crafts and 20th Century European and British decorative arts. It is one of the leading contemporary craft galleries in the country and well worth inspection. There is Regency furniture and silver-gilt taken from the Royal Pavilion as well as Macquoid furniture from Preston Manor. There is a Willett Collection of ceramics which illustrates popular history, so you can learn about the past of Brighton. Its a really interesting collection and depending on when you go, you may find other interesting works. You may find work from students of the local universities or local artists.
