Brighton Half Marathon

Sharing is caring!

The Brighton Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday the 23rd of February. You’ll find that some roads are closed and there will be many people out sheering and supporting the runners. It’s a lovely event where a lot of money is raised for good causes. This year is the 30th iteration of this event. The course takes runners right across Brighton and Hove seafront, as well as through the centre of Brighton around the Level. There is also a special youth race on the day, where young people will run a mile of the race.

This half marathon is run by the Sussex Beacon and been since it’s initiation 30 years ago. It’s now one of the largest running events in the South East of England. The entire race is 13 miles and it takes at least some preparation to complete. While there are many people who will take their time and even walk most of the distance, others take a much more challenging approach. There are the advanced runners who will be looking to complete as quickly as possible. A small few will compete for the fastest time and a few handfuls will be looking at topping their own personal best.

Many people will be looking to maintain a running pace without turning to walking. There will be a few who take a novelty approach to the race. By wearing costumes, taking trailers with music or children in and any other creative approach. For lots of people, simply completing the race is a great accomplishment. It counts as a way of raising money for important causes no matter what time it’s completed in. The preparation and event itself, also make for a wonderful bonding experience. It’s a great project to work on as a group of friends or a family. Besides the physical exercise which is really good for you, the sense of completion and satisfaction is immense!
