Pre-Intermediate and Low Intermediate students were treated to a surprise yesterday, when they were told that they were going to have their lesson out of the classroom!
We made our way down to the Slave Lodge, situated on the corner of Adderley and Wale Street. Armed with worksheets and pens in hand, students were introduced to the history of slavery at the Cape. The original building, built in 1679, was used to confine men, women and children, transported – mainly by the VOC (Dutch East India Company) – as slaves to the Cape during the 17th and 18th centuries.
Students walked around the museum in awe, viewing the exhibitions and reading all about slavery in the Cape.
The student who has completed the worksheet with the most concise answers will be receiving an exciting prize from Nicoletta soon!
