‘How good is your English?’
Perhaps a better question is: ‘How do you know how good your English is?’
Well, I’ve written this to help you find out. A language consists of different parts:
To be good at English, you need to be good at both skills and systems.
However, there are different levels of English – each level requires a certain degree of ability in the skills and systems above. At EC, we have level descriptors – these are documents that state exactly what skills and systems are required for each level. They are available in the Study Room, at reception or in the My Language Portfolio (if you’re an AY student).
So, how do you know how good your English is? Easy – check your level descriptor. Once you can do everything on it, it’s time to ask your teacher if they think you’re ready to move up to the next level…
