With Covid restrictions in place, organising online English virtual social activities for students has been more challenging than in previous times. However, with the enthusiasm of our wonderful and energetic students at EC London, we have been able to host a successful regular activity in the form of a English virtual quiz. These quizzes have taken place on our EC Virtual platform, Microsoft Teams. This has enabled us to keep students in their bubbles for a successful and socially distanced social programme.
Quizzes so far
So far, at EC London we have hosted two quizzes. One quiz was about music and the winners of this quiz were able to choose the topic of the following week’s quiz. The topic they chose was movies. Here’s what was included in each one…
Our music quiz, created by our assistant director of studies, Daniel, consisted of 6 rounds. These ranged from a dancing round to a Tik Tok round. The winners were Melissa’s Army with our students, Mark, Erwan, Linus and Yujin. They then decided to
Our film quiz, created by our assistant director of studies, Andy, consisted also of 6 rounds, ranging from a picture round to foreign translation round. The big moment in this quiz, though, came in the bonus round where students had to recreate a famous film scene, taken from Lord of the Rings. Take a look at the picture below and decide for yourself who you think recreated the original scene best:
Our winner on the day was Jeongwoon (picture number 2), but the others also submitted fantastic pictures that may have easily won on another day.
Future social activities
This week, we are planning to watch an episode from a British TV show. All students will be able to join online and talk about what they watched afterwards. This will all be led by a teacher so there will also be opportunities to learn language from the show that students can use in their daily lives.
We strive to make sure our students feel like a community through online English virtual activities, especially in our current global climate.
