Get ready to Spring Forward for Daylight Savings TIme

Sharing is caring!
This weekend, Daylight Savings Time starts!
Don’t forget to set your clock 1 hour ahead on Saturday night!

This Sunday, March 13th, the west coast of the United States will be experiencing a time change – Daylight Savings Time!

Daylight Savings Time, also known as summer time, is when we set our clocks forward one hour to delay the sunset. This way, we get more working hours in the sunlight. While Day Light Savings Time (DTS) was created to make better use of the time in the sun. Without DTS, in the summer, the sun would rise at 5:30AM and set at 6:30PM. With DTS. That first hour of sunlight would be wasted as everyone would be asleep. After DTS, the sun rises at 6:30AM and sets at 7:30PM. In this way, we can use more of the natural sun light.

When DTS starts in March, we call it “Springing Forward”, because we are moving the hour forward in the Spring. When DTS finishes in November, we call it “Falling Back”, because the time goes back an hour in the Fall. This is a simple word trick to help you remember.

So, don’t forget to set your clocks forward before you go to sleep this Saturday, school will feel like it’s starting one hour earlier than you’re used to – and we will not excuse any absences 🙂

Have a nice sleep!
