Arturo Angeles Zavala has a very fitting name as he turned out to be EC Montreal’s Christmas angel. You see, last week, EC Montreal held its 16th annual charity bake sale for the Shriner’s Hospital for Children Canada. In addition to selling baked goods, our student ambassadors went around the school selling lottery tickets to the students to help raise funds. A 50/50 lottery means that the winning ticket gets 50% of the pot that is collected. Our amazing team of student ambassadors raised $156 from their lottery ticket sales.
After the bake sale last Wednesday, we drew the winning lottery ticket and made the announcement on facebook. I received a message from our activity leader, Nanys, who was with a group of students at a Happy Hour activity, saying that the student just saw the announcement on facebook and he was the winner of the lottery. We prepared his portion of the winnings $78 for him to pick up from the office the next morning. The lottery winner was Arturo Angeles Zavala. He came to the office with his winning ticket, however, we did not expect what happened next. He informed us that he was going to donate the winning $78 to the charity. We were blown away! …but, that was not all. He also informed us that he was going to donate an additional $50 of his own to the charity! We were completely dumbfounded! We could not believe this amazing generosity from our student.
With EC English’s contribution of two hundred euros and with Arturo’s donation, we are able to donate a total of $1,100 to the Shriner’s Hospital! We surpassed our goal of $1000 thanks to our Mexican angel, Arturo!
Arturo has also volunteered to become EC Montreal’s student ambassador! He wants to get more involved at EC and with his heart of gold, we have no doubt, he will make an excellent student ambassador!
