Montreal Ranked One of the Most Walkable Cities in Canada!

Sharing is caring!

Many people say that if you live in Montreal, you don’t need a car.  You can get around the city on your own two feet.  A recent study performed by a technology-powered real estate brokerage company called Redfin, confirms this statement to be true.

The rankings were determined through data from walk-score, a Redfin company that rates the walkability of cities, neighborhoods and addresses.  They looked at the average person’s daily errands and those that do not require a car.  The ranking system allotted points as follows; daily errands that don’t require a car score over 90 points.  Places where most errands can be accomplished on food gave 70 to 89 points and a score of 50 to 69 points were give to those where some errands could be done on foot.

Montreal’s walkable score was 65.4.  We ranked in second place right behind Vancouver.  According to Redin, most errands in Montreal could be done on foot and Montreal can be described as an extremely walkable city.

Although Montreal is a large city, geographically, it has a small town feel to it.  A lot of our attractions are centralized and our 32 kilometers of our underground city, makes it really easy to get around on foot.

In addition to being a walkable city, Montreal has one of the best public transportation systems in the world!  Our metro system is easy to follow and covers the island of Montreal, almost in its entirety.  You can get from the north shore to the south shore of Montreal in less than one hour.

Our EC Montreal students rely on our public transportation system as well as on their own two feet to get around the city.  It is the best way to explore a city, the most economical and most environmental too!

Our EC Montreal students are always pleasantly surprised to learn that we have night buses that run all night and for safety reasons, a woman can request to be let off the bus even in-between stops, so they don’t have long distances to walk.  How cool is that?!

Another great reason to choose to take your English courses in Montreal!  It is ranked one of the most walkable cities in Canada!
