The Canadian government has imposed a new travel guideline which consists of staying at a designated hotel to quarantine for 3 days awaiting the covid test results. This has an impact on our international students traveling to EC Montreal. Students need to present a negative covid test that has been taken within 72 hours of their flight date before boarding their flight. Students will also need to book a quarantine hotel for their first three nights in Montreal at their expense. They need to show this reservation to be allowed to board their flight. They will be tested upon arrival and must proceed to their hotel. If the test result is negative, they can quarantine for their remaining eleven days in homestay or accommodation of choice. It is important to note that their quarantine plan must be deemed acceptable by border officials. If the test result comes back positive, they will be moved to a quarantine facility to be monitored and treated for the virus.
This new measure has come into effect on February 22. It has caused some confusion and disappointment among our schools and students. It is an extra hurdle our students must overcome if they want to experience a full immersion programme in Canada.
Students who wish to study at our EC Toronto, however, do not have the convenience of staying with a homestay family and can only be housed in a designated hotel which is not in everybody’s budget. The Ontario government does not accept this as a type of accommodation for quarantine. EC has come up with a beautiful solution that will allow students to experience more than one Canadian destination and they can save a lot of money! As the province of Quebec is allowing travelers to quarantine in homestay, students can start their language adventure with EC Montreal. They can study English, French or participate in our bilingual programme. Students must be enrolled for a minimum period of 4 weeks and then take the Megabus to Toronto to study in one of their English programmes. Students who book 24 weeks, for example, can study for 12 weeks at EC Montreal and their remaining weeks at EC Toronto. There are many different options available to students. Students will also receive 2 free weeks of EC virtual while they are in quarantine and a great discount on their full board comfort homestay.
With the vaccine roll out plan in Canada, the majority of the population will be vaccinated by summer, so our students can feel a lot safer choosing to study English or French in Canada!
In addition, EC has partnered up with Air Canada and students will receive a 15% discount on their direct flights to Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver! So, you can save even more money by booking with EC!
While you wait for your study permit to be issued, you can start learning English or French from the comfort of your own homes through our different virtual programmes.
