We are thrilled to introduce you to EC Montreal’s new student ambassador, Eliana Torres! Eliana is super motivated to make your EC experience a fabulous one! Here is a little something from Eliana:
My name is Eliana Torres, a creative, proactive, energetic woman, who is passionate about constant learning. I am a Mining and Metallurgical Engineer graduated from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. At the age of 16, when I finished high school, I decided to travel from my native Lorica, a small town surrounded by the Sinú River and where everyone greets each other cordially, to the great city of Medellín, where the flowers and the weather make you feel an eternal spring. I always dreamed of seeing myself as an engineer, researching in earth sciences, guiding with my leadership the girls of my community who lack guidance so that they can be professionals in a scientific field where women are still scarce: mining.
I graduated as an engineer in 2018, and through my years working in Colombia, I experienced working in underground and alluvial mining where I put in practice all the values that I was taught at home: work, perseverance, discipline, and doing things with love. While working, I became a member of the Young Leaders Committee of the SME (Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration), where I was concerned that English is the common denominator for disseminating knowledge in science. However, I felt that I could go further and again life showed me the need to possess better English skills, to communicate my ideas and understand those of other brilliant minds. Since then, I have learned that English is one of the most powerful tools that allows us to grow as a nation, unify us as agents of change, connect with other ideas in the world, and generate new ones in our country. Because of this, I have felt deeply from my heart that I must open myself to explore the world outside my country.
I arrived in Canada, the land of tar sands, northern lights, Rocky Mountains and turquoise glacial lakes, the country where I am fulfilling my dream of improving my English. As a child, I have been a lover of music, art, and most importantly, reading, which is why I have decided to take my English course at the internationally recognized EC School in Montréal, Québec. Montréal is one of the largest bilingual cities in the world, and I particularly like it because it mixes two cultures, European elegance with North American enthusiasm. Being at EC, I have been able to feel how my language skills have improved day by day. I am in love with the quality of the lectures, the teachers and administrative staff who are always open to teach and respond with patience and attention to all our concerns, so I would like to be part of such an excellent group of professionals.
My life has been an exciting journey from a child full of wonder to a young woman who desires to achieve more and contribute to the world. I am writing this letter here today as a woman with an innate spirit of leadership, who seeks to contribute her qualities to the learning of the language and the cultural immersion of students. I would love to be part of the student ambassadors, because I believe that I have the necessary leadership skills to motivate, inspire and influence in a good way the young people who decide to belong to EC. I submit this brief biography with the hope in my heart that you will see my potential and offer the opportunity to allow me to be a part of the student ambassadors of EC Language School 2022.
