Matheus Caetano Tocantins from Brazil completed his 8 week study at EC New York, starting in the advanced level and finishing in the TOEFL prep course. Matheus shared some information about himself and his EC Experience.
What do you do in Brazil?
I am in law school, and I work with student law cases.
Why are you learning English?
To work, because it’s required in Brazil. I’m learning English to travel around the world because everyone speaks English.
Why did you decide to study in New York?
I was in New York last year and I fell in love with the city. The city is amazing. Not so much in the winter; I wish I came to New York in summer!
Why did you choose EC?
My agent told me it’s a really good school here, so I said let’s go and see.
What do you like the most about EC?
EC’s location, the staff, and the huge diversity of people. It’s nice. I could meet people from all over the world.
What do you like most about living in NYC?
I feel like I’m a citizen of the world. Everybody is here. You can find everything here. Sao Paulo is like New York, but New York is way more cosmopolitan. I love it. If I want to eat Vietnamese food, I can do it!
What advice would you give to someone starting their first day at EC?
Try to be open to everything teachers are saying. Don’t have an attitude. You’re here to learn.
Favorite New York moment:
Going to the bars with everyone and the nightlife!
