On Friday, May 9th, EC San Diego celebrated the month of May by throwing a school-wide fiesta! Mexican food was provided by EC San Diego for all students – the menu included rice, rolled tacos, and bean-and-cheese burritos!!
Since San Diego is so close to the Mexican border, it’s difficult not to find amazing Mexican food everywhere you go! Students who learn English at EC San Diego know that this city is filled with unique experiences, cultures, and activities, that come from its proximity to such a vibrant country.
After filling up on lunch, students joined their teachers and staff around the “piñata”. Piñatas are large, colorful containers (often shaped like animals) that are filled with candy and then broken as part of a ceremony or celebration. Students volunteering to try and break the piñata were blind-folded, spun around, and given a stick to hit the colorful, moving target. (Piñatas are controlled by a person who can pull or release the rope -see first photo.)
Once the piñata is broken, candy spills out – we certainly had a fun candy fight that day!!
Thank you to our staff for working so hard to make this Fiesta a success, and thank you to our students for making it so fun!!
