17th, March, tomorrow is Saint Patrick Day, which is the death date of Saint Patrick, instrumental patron of Ireland. These traditional and cultural festivals are held to commemorate Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. This day is also known as a feast day, which involves parades and church services, and people usually wear green clothes or an attire associated with shamrocks a symbol of Ireland.
Originally, Saint Patrick Day has been celebrated in Montreal by Irish soldiers in the Montreal military following the British conquest of New France. In Toronto, it has been held since 1869, so this is very historical event. The famous example of the history, the hockey team, now called the Maple Leafs, used to wear the green uniforms and known as the Toronto St. Patricks from 1919 to 1927.The name was selected to attract the city’s large Irish population to attend the home games. It also shows why St. Patrick day was a big celebration for Toronto citizens.
Now we see the importance of Saint Patrick day, and how do you celebrate such a monumental day? The biggest parade was held on Sunday, but there are several places to enjoy the day. Tomorrow is a good chance to explore and find new restaurants or pubs!
