Requirements vary by institution and programme. Many universities require scores between 6.0 and 7.5, although some programmes may have higher or lower requirements.

How long you need to prepare depends on your current English level, your target band score, and how much time you can study each week. Research shows that students in structured IELTS courses usually need about three months to improve by up to half a band score. The biggest improvements are often seen in students who start below band 5.5 and study intensively. Your motivation, anxiety, first language, and how much English you use outside class also matter. EC offers IELTS courses that last from a few weeks to several months, and our teachers will help you create a study plan based on your level and exam date.

Yes. In addition to providing you with strategies for preparing and taking the exam, you will receive core English training in reading, writing, speaking and listening that will improve your proficiency level. You’ll learn:

• The skills needed to speak confidently  

• Strategies for listening to what’s said and for detail 

• How to skim-read for meaning, scan for detail and more 

There are two types of IELTS test, Academic and General. Most of our students choose to prepare for Academic IELTS, because the content and writing tasks are in the General course are non-academic. Both versions assess all 4 language skills at the same proficiency levels.
