By Doris Domingo EC Boston did it!! Yesterday, Sunday May 1st, a group of staff and students did the Boston Walk for Hunger 2016. A walk of 10 (long) miles around the city to end hunger in Massachusetts. Despite the occasional rain the landscape was stunning as spring has finally conquered Boston with glowing green colors, blooming trees and flowers everywhere. We are very happy to announce that we reached our $150 fundraising goal in less than two weeks and hopefully EC will match our quantity soon to send a final amount of $300 to Project Bread, an Organization that develops and funds hundreds of programs that provide hunger relief to families and individuals across the state. One of the signs along the walk said that with $25 they can provide 40 meals! Thank you for all the donations and for being part of EC Boston’s challenge! Well done participants! Tip: if your legs still hurt, drink hot water with sugar before you go to bed 😉
After a month of activities and fundraising…WE DID IT!!! We have reached our objective and today we have donated $690 to Care.org to build a school! Big thanks to: -The A-M-A-Z-I-N-G EC Boston Volunteer Club. Without you, this campaign would have not been as successful! -All of our EC Boston students and staff that participated. You made this possible with your donations, this gift would not have been possible without your engagement! Thanks a million! -And last but not least, a huge thanks to EC Company & the Corporate Social Responsibility department for matching our donation by adding an extra $200! Thank you! Sincerely, Doris Domingo
By Doris Domingo At EC Boston we are loving the Dance for Charity classes! This week we danced Hawaiian Hula for the first time ever in our lives! Tiare, one of our intern teachers from Hawaii taught us how to dance a beautiful song about the rainbow = “Ānuenue” and nature. In Hula dancing there are many hand motions that represent the words in the song. For example, hand movements can signify aspect of nature, such as the rain or the beautiful land, or an action, like telling a story or smelling a flower. After the class we felt so peaceful and relaxed… we were all dreaming about visiting Hawaii and practicing our new moves near the ocean!
By Doris Domingo The Spanish Flamenco vibe invaded EC Boston last Wednesday Feb. 17th!!! A number of very talented students and teachers joined our Dance for Charity activity to discover Flamenco. They learnt the first Sevillana, a dance from Sevilla, a city in the Southern region of Andalusia in Spain. This dance can be heard mainly in fairs and festivals, including the famous Seville Fair, La Feria de Sevilla or also known as La Feria de Abril. We had so much fun! Join us in our next Dance for Charity events next week! We are VERY close to reach our goal to build a school together with CARE NGO. Monday February 22nd: Hawaiian Hula with Tiare! @11:45am in Room 518. $5 (cash only please) Wednesday February 24th: Yoga with Sara! @11:45 – Room TBD $5 (cash only please) See you all there! Let’s have fun for a good cause!
By Doris Domingo Yesterday’s Dance for Charity class was a success!! Betania, our long-term student at EC Boston and Volunteer Member from Venezuela did an amazing job teaching salsa to all the brave students who wanted to dance for charity! We collected more funds for our project and we are getting closer to reach our goal of building a school. Come to our next session on Wednesday February 17th, same time, same place, Room 518 @ 11:45am! This time get ready for some Spanish Flamenco dancing with Doris! If you have never done it or don’t know anything about it, don’t worry, we will have a short introduction at the beginning of the class to explain where it comes from, we will show some videos and then learn the first Sevillana. Don’t miss the next class, come, have fun and dance for a good cause!

EC staff and students came to school dressed in green to raise awareness and enjoyed free environmental movies being screened by the student lounge all day. Learn more about Boston English.
