“I will always remember this school…” – Emma Pillonel from Switzerland

“I chose Boston because it is a quiet city, not so big, with a lot of students. I met here a lot of people from South America, Asia, and Europe. So enriching! I stay here in a homestay in Winthrop. I really like them, very kind! Moreover, I have two friendly housemates. I will always remember this school because the classes are interesting and the location of the school is perfect.” Emma is learning English for academic purposes in Boston. Go Skydiving in Boston!

I went Skydiving two weeks ago. It was awesome and fantastic. I have never experienced anything like this ever! When my friends recommended this to me I was afraid. I asked my friend if she had done this before. My friend told me, “You have to go there!”. She explained this in such an exciting way that I decided to go there with my boyfriend. First, we couldn’t decide to buy the video and pictures of our jump or not buy? I bought only the video because I want to remember the whole thing and share my Skydiving. After that we took a class. That class was on how to fall down and to land on the ground to safely. Finally, we rode in small airplane. The plane could hold only five people. The pilot, my boyfriend, my boyfriend’s instructor, me and my instructor. After our departure, we could see the ground, sea and lake from the plane. Soon it was my turn to jump out of the airplane. At first, I couldn’t open my eyes and then when we were falling down our parachute was opening after that I could open my eyes. Next my boyfriend’s turn. As I was falling, I could turn and see everything. While I was falling down I didn’t want to land on the ground. It showed me such wonderful sights and all of it looks so small, so my feelings were like in the movie ‘Gulliver’s Travels’. I finally landed on the ground safe, but my boyfriends’ landing was terrible. He almost landed perpendicularly. He hurt his hips and stomach. We talked about how it was Skydiving. My boyfriend told me, “When you fell out of the airplane. You just looked like you disappeared so that made me afraid more. After, we wanted … Read more

Greenvironment Club at EC Boston

Greenvironment, which was set up by a few students and a teacher, Timothy. Having a meeting once a week, every Monday, we set out to consider recycling for environment that each person can do easily. As well, we research and find out how bad effects occur to environment when people do not care about recycling by throwing all garbage together into just one trash bin without any distinction, even if it could be recycled perfectly. Since I got interested in recycling by being one of the Greenvironment members, I’ve started to become conscious of some restaurants and cafes’ recycling systems and whether they have the recycling bins separate or not. Unbelievably, most of the restaurants and cafes where I visit haven’t considered it and they just had one trash bin, which was piled up with all kinds of trash in it. They did not care about it and seemed to be totally ignoring our world for their convenience and comfort. What I’ve seen of this situation has been really shocking as long as I have been aware of it. Thus, I thought I should recycle as a person at home, of course, and in EC Boston as well. The things that I can normally recycle are the plastic bottles, glasses and papers; in particularly, bottles and glasses should be rinsed out before being put into a bin and should not be with oil and organic things(food). I recognized that I should help the environment with consideration and responsibility for my world. Basically, the reason why I was able to change as a careful person about recycling is thanks to having been one of the members of Greenvironment. Before, we had an opportunity to make a presentation about our task. It’s about what’s going on in our world and what’s the … Read more

EC Boston Students go SKYDIVING!

On July 5th, I headed to the place where I could have skydiving in one of the commuter rail stations, the southern. Even though I was a little bit late, when I arrived in the place, fortunately there were a few EC students who were still waiting for their turn. Having spent almost a whole day; because there was not only our group but other groups as well that were waiting for having skydiving, my girlfriend and I took a small airplane which seemed to carry maximum four people including experts. When my expert told me that we were on 3,000ft from the ground, I looked breathtaking, tremendous view, particularly Cape Cod, one of the most famous coasts in Massachusetts. The shape of the Cape Cod seemed to be folding an arm like the shape of croissant. I can’t still stop thinking the great spectacle because it would be the first and the last chance for me to have skydiving with the beautiful view. While I was jumping down, it was the beyond description; although I couldn’t breathe in free fall and my goggle was almost taken off, it was the most exciting feeling I have ever had in my entire life. Furthermore, when my expert opened the parachute, I fully observed all the small lakes as well as tiny villages which looked like it was made of legos. While going down with the parachute, I thought that I had sometimes felt fear of heights especially when airplane was taking off or I looked down the ground from the skyscraping building. However, after achieving this challenging sport, I would say I almost got through the acrophobia; but frankly speaking, when I took some attractions located in the top of one of the skyscrapers, named Stratosphere, in Las Vegas, I extremely … Read more

English Student writes about whether or not a writer can ever be truly unbiased

The first lesson for all Journalism students should be trying to be as objective as they can when writing, but be sure that you will fail. And this rule works for all writing producers. Then you can think that all rules have its exception and maybe – but nothing other than maybe -, cooking recipes or any other kinds of technical writing descriptions can fit as an exception. However, some reasons which support the presented idea are personal opinion, sponsors and choosing facts. Let me show you the ones I chose for this text. First of all, every writer has their own personal opinion. Stronger or not, it is a fact that some different aspects influence what you decide to put on a paper. Background is one of them. If you were born in a rich and well-educated family or in another one with basic needs and where you had to work instead of studying during your childhood for example, it would interfere how you understand social rights. Experience is important too. If you spent your whole life in a dictatorial or even in a democratic country or if you had the opportunity to live in different countries with different cultures and government systems, your point of view about politicians would be narrowed or widened. The same if you just lived in a small or big city, with different problems and advantages. In addition, almost all the communication vehicles have sponsors or a company mission. In other words, different newspapers, TV broadcasts and internet news sources are tied to people and companies which support them financially by advertising incomes or any other kind of relationship. In this point, I want to make an exception to blogs and other new media that have allowed producers to write with liberty. At the same … Read more

Learning English is so much fun!

Our English classes are filled with a variety of ways to learn English. Our teachers love using artistic skills, writing, presentations, videos, and field trips to help students become confident in their English skills.
