The Lewes Bonfire Night is the biggest celebrated Fifth November Event in the world, and is held in the usually peaceful county town of Lewes. Lewes Bonfire Night or just simply the Fifth is the biggest bonfire night celebration in the UK.
The Fifth is not one celebration as such, there are in fact six separate Bonfire Society’s all celebrating the Fifth in various parts of the town, all with their own processions, traditions, costumes, fire sites and fireworks. This can mean 3,000 people taking part in the celebrations, and up to 80,000 spectators attending in the small market town with a permanent population of just under 16,000!
In Lewes on the Fifth, there will be around 25–30 visiting bonfire societies from all over Sussex. The visiting bonfire society and bands will be spread across the six Lewes Bonfire Societies having their own Bonfire Night Celebration on 5th November in Lewes, Sussex celebrating the fall of Guy Fawkes, the failure of the Gunpowder Plot, remembering the Seventeen Martyrs that were burnt near the Lewes War Memorial, remembering the Fallen and more, in a very well choreographed festival manner!
Join in to celebrate the Fifth! Meet Simon in front of EC Brighton at 14:45!
