As one of the Intensive class options for our EC Brighton students doing afternoon lessons (30 sessions per week), the English For Work module is a popular choice.
In this class, students focus on the vocabulary and lexis specific to situations commonly found in a business environment. Particular attention is paid to developing fluency and accuracy in telephone skills (handling calls, making enquiries, responding to calls), preparing for and making presentations, writing emails and letters, writing a CV, job applications and interviews, and even general “small-talk” within a business context.
At our Business English courses in Brighton, students delve into the intricacies of professional communication. They learn the importance of tact and diplomacy, understanding that in business settings, expressing one’s true thoughts isn’t always advisable. Join us to master the nuances of effective Business English
Grammar is also studied as an integral part of the course. In the past few weeks, we have looked at business idioms, prepositional phrases, the uses of make and do with verb/noun collocations, phrasal verbs and emphatic language.
On occasion, case studies are examined and discussed in class and students work in groups to solve the various business scenario problems and present their own recommendations.
Lessons are informal and students learn as much through interaction with each other and in the group discussions, as they do through teacher involvement.
No business background is necessary to benefit from these classes, but obviously a general understanding and/or knowledge of business as well as an interest in the subject matter is useful.
