Visit Pevensy Castle in Ore East Sussex

Sharing is caring!

The most popular Castle to visit when you are in Brighton is Arundel. Arundel is a beautiful place to explore and do interesting things at. But if Arundel doesn’t satisfy your castle curiosity enough, you will want to see Pevensey Castle.

Pevseney Castle

To get there from Brighton, take a train from Brighton Station to “Ore”  and get off at the station “Pevensey & Westham” (this takes about 1 hour). The castle is about a 10 minute walk from this station. It is a scenic train journey along the coast and very relaxing. You get to see all the little towns along the way and can hop off for a tea if you wish.

The castle’s history goes back 16 centuries ! In the 4th century it was one of the last and strongest of the Roman ‘Saxon Shore’ forts. In the year 1066 it was the landing place of William the Conqueror’s army when they invaded England. This was called the battle of Hastings and it happened all over the area including Ore, Hastings, Bexhill and Battle.

Entrance for Adults is £5.00 and if you show your student card you should get a discount reducing the price fo £4.50. This is such a reasonable price to see such an amazing spot of history. There is also many beautiful views and lovely things to do in the area. If you visit, you can explore the Dungeons and you can even look for the ghost of “the Pale Lady of Pevensey” !

Just like Brighton English Courses in the United Kingdom this part of the South East has many lovely pebble beaches. There are fishing towns and old places you can go to explore shops and traditional sites. Many pubs and recreational activities are in this area. It is really recommended that you go and explore. Have a great time getting to know more of the South East than Brighton. Brighton is a small part of a wonderful area of England.
