The Royal Pavilion Ice Rink at night

Brighton Pavilion is a former royal residence – it was the summer residence of The Prince of Wales, who later became King George IV. Imagine living in a house like that. Bit creepy right. It is located in the city centre of Brighton and only a stone’s trow away from EC Brighton! This means we can make lots of trips to the Pavilion and make great use if its facilities. Often there is music and shows being performed in the theatre. It is a signature part of Brighton’s identity and beloved by a great many people.

A few facts that most people don’t know about the Royal Pavilion:

  • Very remarkable architects like Jonh Nash and Henry Holland took part in the construction of the Royal Pavilion, at different stages.
  • It was transformed into a military hospital during the First World War.
  • Around 400,000 people visit the Royal Pavilion annually.
  • You can go ice skating to the Royal Pavilion ice rink every winter!

The gardens are open year round for visitors to enjoy. It’s obviously a hotspot in the summer, when many people come to ‘relax’, on the cool shaded grass. You will regularly find buskers performing in this area. It is adjacent to the Brighton and Hove Museum and Art Gallery. Another staple must-see of Brighton beloved by all. West of the area is the famous North Laines and to the South, the Laines themselves, divided by North Street. This are areas with huge amounts of pedestrian activity, particularly in the summer months. All in all, the Royal Pavillion is the centre piece to one of the most popular areas of the country. It has been central to Brighton since Brighton became a popular destination and it is a must see for any visitor and residents likewise.
