Why is everyone wearing red flowers at this time of year?

A student just asked me a great question. Why is everyone wearing a flower at the moment, on the street and on the television? well…

The week before 11 November, you’ll see people on the TV and in the streets wearing a poppy.

Poppies are red flowers which are worn to show others that you are remembering those who died for their country.
The reason poppies are used is because they are the flowers which grew on the battlefields after World War I ended.
So there you have it, so why not wear a poppy in memory of those from your country who died in the First World War.
