Cape Town Sightseeing Tour with Sheetal

by Sheetal Makhan / AYC On Saturday, 13 April about 20 AY students joined me on the famous CT Sightseeing Tour (Red Route). It was a beautiful day for us to sit on the top deck and take some gorgeous photographs of the city. At the same time, we were able to listen to the commentary about historical facts and tidbits of the places we drove past. Although unplanned, we stopped at Table Mountain and took the cable car to the top where we enjoyed the magnificent view. While a few students got off in Sea Point for lunch with Sheetal at Ocean Basket, a few continued on the route…and some even went swimming! More pictures on the EC Cape Town Facebook page

Staff Profile: Rifqah Brenner – Accommodation Officer

This week our Accommodation Officer, Rifqah Brenner, celebrated 5 years working at EC Cape Town! Here’s what Rifqah had to say about her time with EC: “To me, waking up in the morning and feeling excited about being EC Cape Town’s Accommodation Officer is very important. Your day is always different with Accommodation feedback and issues, whether it is positive or negative. I quickly learnt that understanding various cultures and nationality types are most effective when dealing with people from all over the world, a truly unique experience. The team I have been working with for the past few years are beyond words. Together, we are a well-oiled engine! I was also fortunate to be nominated and to partake in EC’s ‘Take-Off’ programme where I was exposed to various developmental methodologies. This gave me a new confidence and boost and enabled me to grow tremendously. 5 years at EC has gone by and I still wake up in the morning wanting to be part of it all!”

Meet Our Interns – Alice & Susanne!

Currently we have 2 interns at EC Cape Town. Alice who helps the academic department & Susanne who helps the administration department. Here they both share some more about their time in Cape Town & their internship: Interning at EC Cape Town is absolutely fantastic: you meet great people from all over the world, work with brilliant teachers, academics and administrative officers, pick up some South African words, go out with teachers and students, discover the city and the South African culture and live magic moments. If you are lucky and willing to teach in the future, you may also be able to give free grammar lessons to beginner and elementary students. This can tremendously help you getting acquainted with the teaching of English and you may like it lot and find it enthralling. Working at EC is a great chance to have fun while learning and you may be very proud to be part of the EC school team. – Alice, France It is me, the intern… You might expect from the headline that I am going to talk about me. But I actually want to speak to you about what is Cape Town for me. Cape Town is… … a natural beauty, and I’m seriously thinking about how I can fit Table Mountain in my suitcase. … when you have only 3 seconds to cross the street before the pedestrian lights turn red again. … having amazing and open-hearted colleagues and you know already that you will miss them! … going to a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert, without having a ticket! … chilled, friendly and fun! … getting addicted to Lion’s Head and Coke in those small glass bottles, as well. … chatting to so many different people from all over the World. … EC Cape Town … Read more

Homestay Accommodation at EC Cape Town

Staying with a real English-speaking family is a great way for students to practice their English and to learn about the local culture. At EC Cape Town our Accommodation Coordinator, Rifqah Brenner, regularly recruits new host families & visits current host families to ensure suitability & that EC’s standards are met. A review from a student currently in a host family situated in the popular & nearby district of the Bo- Kaap: “I had a very friendly host family. The food was excellent and I had a lot of time to talk with them which was very useful. My host mum baked me scones for breakfast! :-)” – Marko D, Switzerland Marko with his hosts- the Jassiem family:
