Watcha Up To?…Dalton Frias Herculano

Sharing is caring!

What happens to our students once they’ve left our doors for the last time and fly off into the horizon? Many of our students have gone on to do some pretty interesting things with their lives, and studying English as well as the overall experience of living in a foreign country, has a great deal to do with their success.

Watcha Up To?” showcases past students and have them share with us what they’re doing at the moment.

For our first post of 2014 in this series, we say a warm hello to Dalton, from Brazil. Like many others, his trip to South Africa was also his first journey abroad. As expected, it has opened various doors for him for the future. Enjoy Dalton’s story!

Hi, I’m Dalton from São Paulo, Brazil. I started at EC Cape Town in August 2013 at Pre Intermediate level and finished in October at High Intermediate.

First of all, I must confess that I had never thought to go to South Africa, but fortunately the destiny decided for me and I was lucky to study at EC Cape Town.

It was the first time I traveled abroad, so my first exchange to study English. I did not know what to expect of Cape Town and school. I was worried, but since my first day at school I became more confident because teachers and other staff encouraged me to speak more and more. Now, the most special thing for me it was that teachers made me like to read English books.

I have been studying English because nowadays in a globalized world we have to be able to communicate with everyone, especially when you work in an international company, that is my case. I hope to have more opportunities at my office from now on.

Since I left Cape Town, I have been working hard at my office, I have participated in meetings in English and I came back to my old English school to continue studying. Last but not least I am planning my next vacation in Vancouver, Canada.

My advice to new students: Participating in school activities is a good opportunity to interact with other students and teachers, as well as to learn about local customs.
