London: Notting Hill Carnival

August brings about the annual Notting Hill Carnival, a free street festival first started in 1966 in west London. Start the long weekend on Saturday evening by listening to the steel band competition in Emslie Horniman Pleasance Park from 6 PM to 10 PM. Then continue the festivities with Children’s Day on Sunday, from 9 AM to 8:30 PM with parades for children and live music coming from the World Music Stage. Join in the main parade on Monday, with more than 60 live bands playing in costume or enjoy live music and foodstalls celebrating London’s multicultural history with traditional Caribbean food and music. Arrive early to beat the crowds!

When: August 26 to 28, 2017
Where: Around Notting Hill, use Underground stations Holland Park, High Street Kensington, Queen’s Park, Shepherd’s Bush, Bayswater, and Paddington

San Diego: ArtWalk

The 12th edition of the San Diego ArtWalk @ Liberty Station will feature the works of over 200 different artists from all around the world. In addition to purchasing and looking at the works on display, there will also be live music, interactive art installations, a variety of street food options as well as a beer and wine pavillon set up around a lovely rose garden. The festival is free of charge and open from 10 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, and 10 AM to 5 PM on Sunday.

Montreal: Osheaga Festival

Taking place over three days in the gorgeous Parc Jean-Drapeau, the Osheaga Festival is proud to feature headliners such as Lorde, Major Lazer, and the Weeknd this year. Doors open at noon each day and the party continues until 11 PM. Being held in the gastronomic capital of North America, there will be a wide range of cuisine available, from food trucks to festival-catered poutine, a Quebec specialty. While tickets for the full weekend can be over $300 CAD, single day passes are much more inexpensive. Keep in mind that this event is for adults aged 18+.

Vancouver: Zombiewalk

Wear your most terrifying special effects makeup to feel like one of the walking dead or watch from the sidelines as the zombies make their way around Downtown Vancouver. The annual Vancouver Zombiewalk will begin with makeup available starting at 12:30 PM, while the undead are asked to begin organising at 3 PM to depart at 4 PM. The walk to English Bay will be followed by an official afterparty at 9 PM at the Hindenburg, located at 23 West Cordova Street in Gastown. While the Zombiewalk is free, afterparty tickets start at $10.

Malta: Joseph Calleja 20th Anniversary Concert

Maltese operatic tenor, Joseph Calleja, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his public debut this year. To commemorate the occasion, he is performing alongside world-renowned Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli for a once-in-a-lifetime concert in Floriana, Malta starting at 8:30 PM. The singers will be accompanied by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bank of Valletta Joseph Calleja Children’s Choir. Tickets are still available, with prices starting at €80.
