Located on the northern side of the island, the Malta National Aquarium boasts a stunning array of sea creatures in 41 different tanks, including a 12-metre-wide tank with a tunnel allowing visitors to walk underneath the water.

4. Manoel Island waterfront

A great spot for a picnic if the weather cooperates, the contrasting views of historical Valletta and modern Sliema from Manoel Island are unbeatable. Access to the foreshore on the island was only recently opened as the surrounding fort is still under renovation, but many of the old buildings can be seen on the walk to the waterfront.

A well-known destination for sunbathers in the summer, it is also a great location for hiking and exploring in the winter. In the summertime, tour boats leave from the Sliema harbour early in the morning, so get your tickets in advance. In the winter, visitors can take a ferry from Cirkewwa directly to Comino
