Top 5 sights in Malta every language student must see

5. Malta National Aquarium

Located on the northern side of the island, the Malta National Aquarium boasts a stunning array of sea creatures in 41 different tanks, including a 12-metre-wide tank with a tunnel allowing visitors to walk underneath the water.

4. Manoel Island waterfront

A great spot for a picnic if the weather cooperates, the contrasting views of historical Valletta and modern Sliema from Manoel Island are unbeatable. Access to the foreshore on the island was only recently opened as the surrounding fort is still under renovation, but many of the old buildings can be seen on the walk to the waterfront.

3. Mdina – the Silent City

Explore the narrow streets of the ancient walled city of Mdina and enjoy the sweeping views of the island from the bastions high above the city walls. You can even take a tour of Mdina’s medieval dungeons, located just inside the city gate.

2. Blue Lagoon – Comino

A well-known destination for sunbathers in the summer, it is also a great location for hiking and exploring in the winter. In the summertime, tour boats leave from the Sliema harbour early in the morning, so get your tickets in advance. In the winter, visitors can take a ferry from Cirkewwa directly to Comino

1. Valletta

Malta’s capital city is celebrating its status as the European Capital of Culture in 2018 with an exciting cultural programme. With events ranging from art exhibitions to concerts, carnival days to community projects, there is something in this year’s schedule for everyone.
