Maltese-owned EC English Language Centres has today announced its intention to acquire Embassy English from Study Group, subject to certain conditions. EC, which has been in operation for over 25 years, is one of the leading schools in the language travel industry and is consistently awarded and acknowledged for its innovation and its use of cutting-edge technology in teaching students the English language. A successful acquisition would mean that all of Embassy English’s full immersion programmes in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand would come under the EC banner, thereby making EC one of the largest English language schools in the industry with its expansion into Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Auckland. The acquisition would also see EC take over Embassy’s Young Learners programmes, Embassy Summer and Embassy Academy. This move means that EC will expand its Young Learners’ locations in London, as well as Central and Southern England; gain locations in the US in New York State, Massachusetts, and California; and expand in Canada to offer Toronto. As a result of the acquisition, EC will have an English language school in the most sought-after English-speaking destinations around the world. In discussing the intended acquisition, EC’s Executive Chairman Andrew Mangion said: “EC has always strived to be at the forefront of our industry and that position has allowed us to keep an eye on the various trends and changes taking place. I have been an advocate for consolidation in our industry at both the school and agency level for quite some time, and I believe that our intent to purchase Embassy English is the right strategic move at the right time. We believe that consolidation will strengthen our core business and allow us to further diversify geographically without creating more competition. We are, of …
In 2016, EC partnered with United World Schools in order to make education accessible to children who would otherwise not have access to education. We began by building a well in the village of Ban Houy, Cambodia. Ban Houy is a small village home to 165 children and their families, and this well provides water to their whole community. We then began works on our first Cambodian primary school, where students learn the national language (Khmer), maths, arts and crafts. After the success of our first school, we are proud to announce that we have continued our efforts by building a second primary school in Don Lo, just a few miles from our first school. The school has just opened and students are now able to attend classes at their new school! Our next step is to send over another team of EC volunteers to work with the children and their teachers in 2019. We are proud to continue to support UWS in this endeavour, learn more about EC in Cambodia today!

Over the last 25 years, our single school in Malta has expanded to teach success in 24 schools in five different countries on three continents. Last Thursday featured a school-wide 90’s dress-up day in celebration of our anniversary, while on Friday we reached 50,000 likes on our EC Central Facebook page! Thank you to all of the teachers, students, and staff, who allowed for such a great “birthday” week. We cannot wait to see what the next 25 years will bring! [hs_action id=”2771″]

Several centres have embarked on long-term initiatives that give back to the local community by doing what we do best – teaching! Here are some of the amazing things that have been happening. EC San Francisco is helping students from the Mission Dolores Academy (which provides education to children who live in communities that have low-performing public schools and come from low-income families) to stage a production based on the children’s book ‘Mostly Monsterly’! EC Cape Town is working with the Barcelona Orphanage in Gugulethu Township, and over the last 6 months staff have accomplished some amazing things. For Christmas 2012, staff put together a shoebox of gifts for each of the children, in February and March EC students were taken to the Orphanage to play, interact and have lunch with the children, and in April staff & students opened a mini-library at the orphanage. EC Malta is working with the Open Centre for Refugees, and staff have been teaching lessons in English to help the refugees with their integration into a global community. Each student receives an EC Certificate and extra learning materials to help further their English studies. EC Brighton is working with the Refugees & Migrants Community Safety Team at Brighton City Council to deliver a variety of lessons to Brighton’s refugee community. “I’m really enjoying coming to the speaking classes at EC.” Magda (Student) “Thanks for organising this course – we are really grateful for the opportunities this will give to our students.” Tara (City College Brighton teacher) EC Boston launched their US Citizenship classes for immigrants in March, helping those on their way to becoming American citizens develop their English skills for the naturalisation test. “These citizenship classes are important to the people of Boston as oftentimes immigrants do not have enough knowledge of the …
Taking for granted all we’re blessed with is terribly easy, isn’t it? Realising just how lucky many of us are makes us feel good and giving a little something in return for all the good we receive feels… well, unbeatably good too! EC has always held community volunteering work close to heart. Last year, the 14th April was devoted to joining local causes: cleaning up the environment in our Los Angeles English school and charity fund-raising in our Bristol English school, to name only two. This year, staff at our centres around the world participated in an exciting fortnight packed with all sorts of activities and events. Want to find out what we were up to? Here’s just a tasty slice: 3rd April: EC Central kicked off the fortnight with a Food Festival in aid of Inspire, a centre for children with disabilities. 6th April: EC Bristol held a Spring Fair Fundraiser in honour of local charities. 20th April: Was a busy day for many of our centres – EC Los Angeles cleaned up Santa Monica Bay in the ‘Heal the Bay’ initiative. EC New York helped out at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. EC Boston cleaned up the Charles River. EC Miami carried out a beach clean-up with ECOMB, a local non-profit organisation. EC Toronto took part in the ‘Spring Clean Up’ Day for Toronto Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club. EC Cape Town opened a mini-library, as well as gardening and painting at Barcelona Township Orphanage. EC Central helped out with some maintenance work at Inspire. … And much more! Check out our colourful photos in this Facebook album.
