San Francisco chosen the world’s best city to visit in 2013! The most famous and largest travel guide book – “The Lonely Planet” has named San Francisco as number one city in the world to visit in year 2013. Lonely Planet chose the destinations which offer the traveller something special. San Francisco was voted the destination for culture, events, food. Our students who learn English in San Francisco already know what a great place it is! San Francisco is one of America’s great walking cities. You can see almost everything in the city on foot (or bike). The beautiful Californian countryside is also a big reason for choosing to study English at EC San Francisco. Here are 5 things you must do in San Francisco: Alcatraz – The Rock, as it is known, was once a maximum-security prison. It sits on an island in the middle of the bay. Take a cruise out to see it. Golden Gate Bridge – Hire a bike and ride across San Francisco’s iconic bridge. Cycling is also a great way of exploring the city. Cable Cars – You haven’t been to San Francisco until you have ridden on a cable car. Corona Heights Park – For amazing views of the city hike 520ft to the top. Mission District – A great area of the city to explore especially for food, art, music and festivals. Day or night, there’s no bad time to go.

We are proud to let you know that we have been shortlisted for two STM Star Awards. This year, we have been nominated in two categories: ‘Chain School – Over Five Centres’ and ‘Junior Course for Under 18s’. These much-respected international awards recognise success and excellence and are voted for by thousands of our peers from the language travel industry. Our executive chairman Andrew Mangion said “Our STM Star Awards nominations are a reflection of our positive relationships with our colleagues, partners and students. Differentiating ourselves from the crowd with innovative programmes and modern stylish facilities, we have been able to build a strong and trusted brand. Over the past six years we have been nominated for awards in a variety of different categories, indicating the quality of our courses all-around. It is thanks to our passionate and hard-working international team that we have, once again, been shortlisted and we are delighted.” Since 2007, we have been nominated nine times, winning STM Star Innovation of the Year Award in 2009 for our EC Malta Freestyle Programme and again in 2010 for our Malta Club 30+ English Course, and the prestigious STM Star Chain School award in 2011. Winners of this year’s STM STAR awards will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on September 1. Being nominated again twice this year is a huge honour for all of us at EC. We appreciate the trust and support we receive from our peers around the world. As always, we are committed to the very highest level of service we can offer our students. This recognition is great motivation to work even harder to give our students experiences they will never forget.
EC’s new head office, EC Central which is close to our English school in Malta, was today visited by Maltese Prime Minister, Dr Lawrence Gonzi. The visit started with Dr Gonzi being given a tour of our modern premises by Executive Chairman, Andrew Mangion, before unveiling a commemorative plaque. Dr Gonzi, who chatted with staff as he toured the various areas, closed his visit by giving a short speech praising EC’s achievement in growing from its humble beginnings to being one of the world’s most-respected chain of English language schools. As the Prime Minister stated, “We are today celebrating the success of a Maltese company that has evolved into a global success story.” EC started in Malta as one family-run English school in 1991. Today EC is made up of 15 international schools, which in 2011 taught English to 40,000 students! Students come to our award winning schools from over 120 countries around the world and 97% of our clients would recommend our schools to their friends. The Prime Minister is no stranger to EC as he inaugurated EC New York, our English school in Manhattan, in 2009. At EC, we take Dr Gonzi’s visit as recognition of all hard work and commitment we put in to giving our students the best possible study-abroad experience. We thank the Prime Minister for taking the time to visit our new Head Office and meet our team.
EC celebrates it’s first 3 Canadian schools! LSC celebrated its 50th year in Canada and its transformation into EC with live music, fine food and a popular photo-booth hosted at the newly refurbished EC Toronto English school. Agents, friends and EC staff from across the world celebrated together on April 18, 2012. Nearly 200 people attended the event, including EC’s Executive Chairman Andrew Mangion and CEO Mike Xuereb. The event offered guests the opportunity to see the newly renovated Toronto school with its spectacular modern furniture, glass walls as well as upgraded facilities and technology. Students will love studying at the new-look school! The evening reception featured food, drink and a live band that spotlighted music from the 60’s in honour of LSC’s birth in 1962. The night’s biggest hit was a large photo-booth where guests were invited to have their pictures taken, and if brave enough, to dress up in costumes and pose for the camera. “The party was a big success as guests and staff mingled over a delicious array of great food and enjoyed the sounds of a live band. We all had a lot of fun and it was great to be able to showcase our new facilities of EC Toronto to so many of our active partners,” says Gayle Forler, EC Sales Director for Canada. EC has invested in facilities in all 15 of its locations with comprehensive refurbishments and an upgrade of resources. EC Toronto, EC Vancouver and EC Montreal have just undergone complete transformations including new computers and the installation of interactive white boards in all classrooms.
