This week we decided to try something different at EC Covent Garden. We decided to combine learning English with our social programme. First of all our students went out to the cinema with one of our teachers, Matt (who is also our resident film critic). They watched the new film about the life of Stephen Hawking, called The Theory of Everything. Today, in one of our free classes, Matt is going to teach the same group how to write a review, focusing on the structure and the key vocabulary students would need to complete the task.
Once they’ve written the reviews, they will be allowed to send them to me to be corrected and if they agree, we might even be able to post one or two of them on our blog so that other students can read them and hopefully learn about writing reviews in English.
Over the next few months, we’re going to continue to combine our social programme outings with our free lessons so that students are not only learning English but also getting out into London and experiencing it how we do. So, keep an eye out for future blog posts on our outings, and hopefully a nice film review from one of our students. From what I’ve gathered, they all loved the film so I’m looking forward to reading what they produce.
